Collection: Fabramics - Jung So Hye
Fabramics is a series by Korean ceramic artist Jung So Hye, born from the wish to "dress old things in new clothes."
Techniques used in tailoring cloth are applied to ceramics: based on the forms of traditional vessels and antique objects, each piece is shaped stitch by stitch, as if sewing a garment.
The three-dimensional forms, created by sewing fabric together, carry a voluminous presence — including the wrinkles and distortions that emerge by chance, giving each piece a one-of-a-kind expression. A mold is taken from the shape of the cloth, and the piece is carefully finished as pottery.
Depending on the texture of the fabric, the type of thread, and the way it is sewn, each work is born wearing its own "new garment."
The flower vase, with each blue stitch carefully hand-painted, holds the quiet warmth that only Jung So Hye's handiwork can bring.
